Soil Consolidation & Settlement Testing | AS 1289

Consolidation testing quantifies how a soil compresses and expels pore water over time under applied load. It is the primary source of data for predicting settlement of structures, embankments, and pavements on compressible soils. Western Geotechnical Laboratory Services (WGLS) provides accredited One Dimensional Consolidation testing to AS 1289.6.6.1 in three specimen configurations. Standard testing uses remoulded or disturbed samples and is suited to preliminary investigations and index testing programs. Undisturbed Comprehensive testing is performed on intact samples and provides the most reliable consolidation parameters for detailed settlement design. Remoulded testing at 8 stages allows assessment of reconstituted specimens where undisturbed sampling is not practical. WGLS also provides Collapse Potential testing to AS 1289.6.6.1, which identifies soils susceptible to sudden volume reduction upon wetting under load — a critical assessment for arid and semi-arid regions across Western Australia. All tests are available from our NATA-accredited laboratory in Welshpool, Perth.
