Direct Shear testing measures the shear strength of soil along a defined failure plane, providing the cohesion and friction angle parameters needed for slope stability analysis, retaining wall design, foundation assessment, and embankment engineering. Western Geotechnical Laboratory Services (WGLS) provides accredited Direct Shear testing to AS 1289.6.2.2, available in four configurations to suit a wide range of project requirements. Multi Stage Drained testing applies multiple normal stress levels to a single specimen, providing a full Mohr-Coulomb failure envelope efficiently. Multi Stage Undrained testing follows the same approach under undrained conditions. Single Stage Drained and Single Stage Undrained variants are available where individual specimen testing is specified or preferred. All four configurations are carried out from our NATA-accredited laboratory in Welshpool, Perth, supporting geotechnical engineers on civil, mining, and infrastructure projects across Western Australia.
