Dieback and Pythium are two of the most damaging fungal pathogens affecting plants, turf, and native vegetation in Western Australia. Dieback, caused by the water mould Phytophthora cinnamomi, is a declared pest in WA and is responsible for widespread destruction of native bushland, horticultural crops, and landscape plantings. Pythium species cause damping-off, root rot, and crown rot in turf, nursery stock, and a broad range of ornamental and food crops. Early detection is critical to managing both pathogens and preventing further spread. Western Geotechnical Laboratory Services (WGLS) provides Dieback and Pythium Fungal Disease screening using in-house methods, giving landscape managers, nursery operators, revegetation practitioners, and turf managers the pathogen detection capability they need to protect their plants and projects.
