Sample pre-treatment by compaction is a laboratory preparation procedure used to condition soil specimens before index property or classification testing. It simulates the effect of field compaction on soil structure and is specified under NSW Roads and Maritime Services test method RMS T102. This procedure is required for certain geotechnical testing programs where the influence of compaction on soil behaviour needs to be assessed prior to further testing. Western Geotechnical Laboratory Services (WGLS) offers Pre-Treatment by Compaction to RMS T102 from our NATA-accredited laboratory in Welshpool, Perth, supporting contractors and engineers working to national and state road authority specifications across Australia.
